ML Automated Diamond Grading & Assorting Engine

Stones go in the hopper. Cameras and a spectrometer read each one under known light, a model grades it, and an actuator drops it in the right bin. Every stone leaves with a record, and the EU filing is built from that record.

Today this is done by eye, one stone at a time, so the same stone gets different grades from different people.

Grades are stated on the GIA scale, which is what the trade prices against. Jewel Labs is not a laboratory and does not issue GIA reports. The software runs today. The machine is in development and the figures above are design targets.

How it works

How a stone becomes a filing.

One record, shared by every machine, from the cut plan to the filing.

  1. 01 Cut plan A rough scan goes to the model. It sends back where to cut.
  2. 02 Read The stone goes in the box and is graded in seconds.
  3. 03 Record One row per stone, readable by any other system.
  4. 04 File Checked against the certificate and invoice, then filed.

Polished goods at or above 0.50 ct need a signed origin statement to enter the EU. We build it from the records, while the parcel is still on the desk.

Beyond grading

The records add up to a dataset.

Every scan stores images, spectra and proportions against the conditions they were measured under. At volume that is a diamond dataset nobody has. Quantum sensing and power semiconductors both run on diamond.
